iRobot Roomba 650 Robot Vacuum Review

This is the perfect all-around robot vacuum.

When people think of robotic vacuums, chances are, the iRobot Roomba 650 ($350) is the robot vacuum they’re thinking of. It’s an absolute workhorse, a good value, and our pick for the best basic robot vacuum.

The iRobot Roomba 650 stands out from the pack thanks, in part, to its three-stage cleaning process, which is more effective than much of the competition. And because of its small stature, the Roomba 650 easily gets under furniture to hunt down dust bunnies.

This little guy has a lot of smarts, too. Its sensors keep it from crashing down stairs mid-cleaning, while virtual walls keep him out of rooms of your choosing. Our favorite feature, though, is how it senses the dirtiest areas of your home and focuses its efforts there.

The Roomba 650 may not be the best choice if you have deep carpets, though, and some competitors do a better job at handling pet hair and dander. Its has a modestly sized dustbin, too, so you’ll need to empty it frequently.

Still, these minor quibbles aside, the iRobot Roomba 650 is our pick for the best basic robotic vacuum for the average home.
